Darwin Nunez Edges Closer to Napoli Move Amid Liverpool Exit Rumors

Darwin Nunez’s future at Liverpool has once again taken center stage in the ongoing summer transfer window of 2025. The Uruguayan striker is strongly linked with a move to Serie A giants Napoli, as his position at Anfield becomes increasingly uncertain under new head coach Arne Slot.

Despite playing 47 matches last season and helping Liverpool win the Premier League title, Nunez’s individual performances have come under heavy scrutiny. His role as a starter remained limited, and his inconsistency in front of goal led many to question whether he still fits into Liverpool’s long-term plans.

The arrival of Slot has done little to improve his standing in the team, with reports suggesting that the Dutchman is not entirely convinced by Nunez’s output.

Across three seasons, the 24-year-old has netted 40 goals in 143 appearances in all competitions—a return that many view as underwhelming given his potential and price tag. Recent reports claim that Liverpool is now open to selling Nunez to fund the purchase of a more clinical striker.

Alexander Isak of Newcastle United has emerged as a potential target for the Reds. As interest in Nunez grows, clubs such as AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, and several teams from the Middle East are reportedly monitoring the situation.

However, Napoli is believed to be leading the race for his signature. Napoli, now coached by Antonio Conte, are actively looking to bolster their attacking line-up for the upcoming season.

Although they recently acquired Romelu Lukaku, Conte is eager to add more firepower and has identified Nunez as a key target. According to The Athletic, Napoli have already contacted Liverpool and Nunez’s representatives to explore the possibility of a deal.

“I told him to go to Naples, and he seemed very open to the idea,” said Gargano. “He said he’s waiting to finalize the contract with Napoli.

The warmth of the city and the fans will suit him perfectly.” If negotiations proceed smoothly, Nunez could soon be swapping Anfield for the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, marking a fresh start in his European journey.
