Liverpool Opens Negotiations for Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez to Strengthen Defense Ahead of 2025 Season

Liverpool, the Premier League champions of the 2024/2025 season, are actively pursuing defensive reinforcements by opening talks with Bournemouth to sign promising young left-back Milos Kerkez. The ongoing negotiations are reportedly progressing well, with both clubs hopeful to reach an agreement soon.

The Reds have identified the need to refresh their defensive lineup, particularly on the left flank. For years, Andrew Robertson has been Liverpool’s first-choice left-back, but his form has noticeably declined this season, weakening Liverpool’s defensive stability and diminishing their attacking threat from that side.

Although Kostas Tsimikas provides backup, Liverpool are aiming to secure a younger, long-term successor to Robertson — and Milos Kerkez fits the profile perfectly.

According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, “Liverpool have contacted Bournemouth regarding a deal for Milos Kerkez, and talks are currently underway.” Romano also confirmed that Liverpool are close to finalizing personal terms with the Hungarian defender, who is eager to make the move to Anfield. Milos Kerkez has proven his worth at Bournemouth with 72 appearances across all competitions, contributing 2 goals and 8 assists.

His ability to defend solidly while supporting attacking plays makes him an attractive asset for Liverpool. Manager Arne Slot is optimistic that Kerkez will adapt quickly to Liverpool’s style and make an immediate impact.

This transfer pursuit for Kerkez follows Liverpool’s earlier moves in the summer window to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Jeremie Frimpong already set to join after meeting a £29.5 million release clause. Liverpool is also eyeing other defensive reinforcements, though their attempt to sign Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen was thwarted by his transfer to Real Madrid.

Additionally, Liverpool may look to sign a new central striker as rumors swirl around Darwin Nunez’s potential departure from Anfield this summer.
