Manchester United Manager Hints at Summer Defensive Signing Amid Yoro Injury Concerns
Posted 1 week 1 day agoManchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has hinted that the club could target a new central defender in the upcoming summer transfer window, following growing concerns over Leny Yoro’s recurring foot injury. The French youngster, who recently returned from a long spell on the sidelines due to a metatarsal fracture, suffered a fresh setback during United’s clash with West Ham United last weekend.
Yoro had only made his competitive debut for the Red Devils in December 2024, having missed the early part of the season. However, his latest injury has once again ruled him out of training, raising doubts over his availability for the UEFA Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur scheduled for May 21.

“Leny is a bit like Matta – when he got injured against Brentford, I immediately started thinking about next season, and whether we need another centre-back,” said the Portuguese tactician. His remarks suggest a possible defensive reinforcement could be on the cards this summer if Yoro faces another lengthy recovery period.
Amorim emphasized that the club’s long-term planning might be disrupted if the injury proves to be serious. While his immediate focus remains on preparing the team for the Europa League final, he acknowledged that ensuring squad depth for the 2025/26 season is just as critical.
Alongside Yoro, other defenders such as Matthijs de Ligt and Ayden Heaven are also doubtful for the final due to fitness issues, while Lisandro Martinez is not expected to return until early 2026. The injury woes have left United's backline stretched thin, prompting the medical team to schedule detailed assessments for Yoro, De Ligt, Heaven, and Diogo Dalot early next week.
The results will determine their availability for the high-stakes final against Spurs.

Manchester United are currently enduring a two-month winless streak in the Premier League and sit precariously in 16th place. A positive result would not only boost morale ahead of the Europa League final but also relieve mounting pressure on the underperforming squad.
